Expatriation: supporting a 360° change?

Expatriation: how to accompany a 360° change?

Expatriation is not limited to a move. This accumulation of upheavals requires specific support.

01

Why ?

Expatriation means leaving an intimate space to discover an often unknown place. It is therefore the rupture of a secure continuity, both personal and professional, which requires a work of mourning and reinvention and a great logistic effort.

Expatriation is a real uprooting. And it will impact all the elements of the employee’s life: professional mission of course, but also obviously family, social, personal and even physical life. If we refer to Maslow’s famous pyramid, we can see that change concerns all its components. Nowhere else are personal and professional aspects so intertwined.

The success of the expatriation depends on multidimensional issues. Preparing for this is essential, especially since these issues are not always visible at first glance (the famous hidden part of the iceberg).

02

But how can we address this 360° change that extends from visa issues to leadership issues?

This is the purpose of expat coaching as it was conceived at Expat Communication.
It is based on the initial intuition of our co-founder, Corinne Tucoulat, who launched the first expatriation preparation programs in 2001. It was then consolidated by the contribution of Global coaching defined by Philippe Rosinski, coach distinguished by the Harvard Business Review, and speaker at Expat Communication.

And it is based on an essential conviction: coaching is a powerful vector of change, which makes it possible to take up multidimensional challenges provided that it is carried out in an approach which integrates all the aspects affecting our existence.

Expat coaching brings together 9 dimensions

Dimensions Expat Communication

And for each of these dimensions, everyone immediately perceives the countless possible variations.

04

Which experts then to accompany the expatriates in such a broad field?

The mission of Expat Communication’s Coach Academy is to select, train and supervise Expat Coaching experts. Of course, they must have extensive personal experience of expatriation and proven technical skills in coaching or in another field of support. They are then trained extensively and regularly updated on the progress of our Expat Lab. Finally, they network to continuously identify synergies that allow them to address a wide range of needs, from cross-cultural leadership to school counseling for expatriate children.

Today, the Coach Academy brings together more than 30 coaches of 8 nationalities, located in 25 countries, speaking 7 languages and experts in several of the 9 disciplines related to expatriation.

05

Finally, how do you structure support that is broad enough to address each of these topics?
