White paper on dual careers in expatriation

What is the reality of a dual career in expatriation? How can things be improved? To adapt to your availability, we have gathered these data through 4 levels of reading inthis white paper: (download here)

Have you ever heard this sentence: “Thank you for this proposal. I’m interester in the job, it’s a great adventure but we’re still hesitating because of my wife’s career.”?

Expatriation is part of the daily life of a growing number of French people. There were 2 million of them living abroad in 2012. This number is expected to double by 2022. More than 25% of young graduates from higher education see their future in foreign countries. 70% of the French leave as a couple, and the spouses are often equally qualified. The question of combining two careers within a couple is obvious: in 2015, in a French couple, it is normal that both work…
However, the reality of expatriation does not correspond at all to this illusion of parity: for 62% of expatriate spouses, most of whom are women, expatriation is a bad or very bad thing for their career. Only half of the spouses who seek for a job actually find one.

In 2015 the Expat Value survey made it possible toestablish a precise inventory of the situation of dual careers in expatriation in order to build truly effective solutions.

Couples took up the survey, which finally allowed them to take stock of their concerns, their joys and their frustrations on this central subject in their lives. The project has gone viral. 3500 couples have taken the survey making it the largest survey ever conducted on this topic, to the point that the data is now being analyzed by a research team for international publications.
