CFE (Caisse des Français de l’Etranger) is a voluntary social security fund specifically created for French nationals living outside of France, regardless of the situation during expatriation, regardless of the country of residence or stay, and without any exclusion linked to the nature of the pathology or the circumstances (natural disaster, acts of war, terrorist attack, etc.) It avoids any loss of rights caused by a departure abroad and allows expatriates to keep their social protection “à la Française”. The CFE ensures continuity with the French social security system during expatriation and upon return.
Within this voluntary insurance, it is possible to freely combine the three suggested insurances:
– illness-maternity,
– work-related accidents and illnesses
– and old age (Social Security retirement for employees, former insured people of a French compulsory scheme, and persons in charge of the family. These last two statuses allow accompanying spouses to continue to validate quarters via their CFE membership even in the absence of professional activity).
You will then receive the same benefits as in the French system.
In 2017, more than 210,000 French people worldwide, are covered by the CFE. www.cfe.fr
